Prominent and oversized ears or congenital deformities of the ears can be corrected with aesthetic surgery. Surgical reshaping process of the ear is called otoplasty. Unlike other aesthetic operations, ear surgery is usually preferred in childhood. This is because of two main reasons. Prominent ear patients can avoid years of teasing because of the appearance of their ears, and the ear cartilage (the supporting tissue) is much more pliable in these ages, and thus easier to mold. But, this surgery can be performed in an adult age.

During the initial consultation, the patient’s compliance with the operation and expectations are assessed. Detailed information about the operation is given.

Is the operation performed under general anesthesia?
It can be done with local or general anesthesia according to the age of the patient. Children have general anesthesia. Otoplasty operation is usually performed on an outpatient basis, and medications are administered to keep the patient comfortable during surgery.

How long does the operation take?
The length of operation depends on the technique used, and on average takes about one to two hours for both ears.

Will I have a pain?
You will experience some level of pain after the procedure; however, don’t worry about that medication will typically keep pain under control.
