The overdevelopment of the male breasts is called gynecomastia and is observed in approximately 50% of males. The cause of most of the gynecomastia is unknown. A small proportion may be due to alcohol use, some drugs, other systemic diseases, weight gain etc.
When you come for a consultation, after detailed examination, your health condition, current treatment and diseases will be examined and the most appropriate surgery will be planned for you. Gynecomastia surgery can be performed on healthy men of any age.
During gynecomastia surgery, excess fat and/or breast tissue are removed, and in some cases excess skin is removed. If the gynecomastia is consists of excess fat tissue, liposuction is used to remove the excess fat. But if excess glandular tissue is the primary cause of the gynecomastia, this tissue will be removed. Working through a small incision, excess glandular tissue is removed from around the areola and bottom of the breast using liposuction and pull-through technique.
In the post-operative period you will need to wear compression garment for 4 to 6 weeks to make your healing better and comfortable. It takes about a week to return to many normal activities and about four weeks to return to sporting activities.
